Why do all the cool technology expos have to take place on the other side of the States where I live?
Some pretty cool gadgets were unveiled at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which took place in Las Vegas. The one that caught my attention is a Wi-Fi phone from Skype and Netgear. Apparently, it was announced on January 4, according to CNet News.com. I have been using Skype on a daily basis for several months now to communicate with my family in Europe, and I’ve been pretty impressed with the call quality and the timely software updates, so I have been hoping for something like this to come out!
Using the Wi-Fi enabled Skype phone, which looks like a regular cell phone, you will be able to make calls to other Skype users for free anywhere in the world, or call regular phone numbers using SkypeOut. All you’d need is a Wi-Fi hotspot. Not many of those exist around my area, but I do have a wireless network set up in my apartment. It will be like getting a cordless for the first time all over again!
