Harry Potter DIY collectible

Harry Potter wood blocks arrangement

I had some free time over the Thanksgiving weekend, so I spent some time working on a small crafts project I’ve wanted to do for a while. I have had this beautiful Harry Potter calendar from 2006 that I had stored away and would take out once in a while to look at because I love the illustrations by Mary Grandpre.

Anyone who has read the US versions of the Harry Potter books has probably heard of Mary Grandpre, the illustrator of the books, who has done all the covers and the chapter art. In my opinion, Mary Grandpre’s illustrations inspired by the books brings the world of Harry Potter alive like no one still from the Harry Potter feature films could ever do. In addition to the art appearing in the books, she has done many other pieces depicting scenes from the series, twelve of which were printed in this calendar. Over the weekend I took the calendar pages apart and created my very own Harry Potter collectible wood blocks. It was a lot of fun and not too difficult, thanks to this photo block kit by Photojojo.

There was kind of a long planning stage to decide which pages to cut up because they had to be cropped: in the end, I went with the scenes that could be cropped down to 6 by 8 inches without having to leave out any important part of the scene. I really like how they turned out.
