Amazon MP3, eMusic icons

6

Update on 12/4/08: the eMusic icon is now the official icon for the eMusic Download Manager! Please download at the eMusic website.

I get my music from several places: iTunes, Amazon MP3, eMusic, and, most recently, Lala.com. Oh, and the local record store. I’ve been using the Amazon MP3 and eMusic desktop clients to download my purchases, and for the longest time the application icons had been bothering me. I call this the graphic designer’s OCD. I took some time recently to make my own versions and I’m pretty happy with them so I wanted to share. The Amazon MP3 icon comes in three flavors (preview).

Let me know if you use them! By the way, Mac only I realized I included PNG versions so these may work on Windows too.

These icons are only intended for personal use on your desktop computer. Please do not link directly to the files elsewhere, link to this post instead.

Word Clock Screensaver

If you are a Mac user, check out this really nice typographic screensaver from London-based graphic designer and programmer Simon Heys.

There’s no ‘Reset to defaults’ option, and I think I went kind of crazy with the typefaces because it eventually gave me an error and refused to load. So if you want to reset it, find the com.simonheys.wordclock.plist preference file in Library › Preferences › ByHost and trash it. Then relaunch System Preferences and get customizing. Or leave it as is—I do like the default configuration.

Quick OS X Mail.app tip

I discovered something really cool today, while using Mail, on my Mac at work.

You know when you go to reply, the entire email you are replying to—and sometimes a few more emails that came with it—immediately gets quoted in the new message? A lot of times, this is not desirable.

Well, it turns out, if you wanted to quote only part of that previous message in your reply, you can just highlight only what you want quoted, and only that specific part will appear in your reply. Neat, huh? I don’t know if this feature is available in other email clients. Perhaps someone reading this will know.
